STUDIO VISIT WITH DENYSE SCHMIDT [click to view images]
A former graphic designer and graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, Denyse Schmidt, has been sewing since she was a young girl. Schmidt brings her eclectic influences from seamstress to graphic designer together in patchwork quilts characterized by simple graphics, rich color, and quality workmanship. She is the founder and president of Denyse Schmidt Quilts of Bridgeport CT.
Denyse Schmidt’s various lines of quilts range from the Couture Collection, with one-of-a-kind quilts that can take up to ten months to hand-craft, to the Works Quilts machined in her Connecticut studio, and Sarita Handa which are hand-crafted in India, from the women-owned leading manufacturer Sarita Handa Manufacturing. Her materials can range from cotton, wool, or kimono fabric. Her graphics range from traditional square and circle shapes to more minimal and even Bauhaus-inspired elements.
