WOULD YOU RATHER LIVE IN THE GLASS HOUSE OR THE FARNSWORTH HOUSE?

Modern Views: A Project to Benefit Farnsworth House and the Glass House promises to be one of the most exciting cultural events of the year. On September 16 at the Arts Club in Chicago and on October 6 at Sotheby's in New York, works representing one hundred contemporary artists, architects and designers will be exhibited and auctioned to support the preservation and restoration of the Brick House at the Philip Johnson Glass House and for restoration, maintenance and operations of Mies van der Rohe's  Farnsworth House. In addition, a new Sarah Morris film entitled, Points on a Line, will be premiered in both cities. This project is generously underwritten by Sotheby's

Through their work, these one hundred architects, artists and designers representing some of the greatest thinkers in their respective fields, continue one of the 20th Century's great cultural dialogues -- the historic exchange reflected in Farnsworth House and the Glass House. It is a dialogue about vision and precedent, influence and inspiration, theory and practice, intellect and passion. The entire exhibition will be available for view and on-line bidding after September 7 at www.sothebys.com/modernviews

Modern Views project leadership invited a global slate of participants to create and donate a drawing, model or other work of art, accompanied by a short statement that captures how these two iconic buildings inspire their work. The donated work will be published in a book by Assouline which contains an introduction by Paul Goldberger, an interview with Phyllis Lambert, and an essay by Sylvia Lavin. The book, available in late September, can be pre-ordered now
